Four Tips for Traveling with Your Cat
Sometimes it appears that dogs have all the fun. After all, you never see somebody in the park playing Frisbee with their cat, and nobody talks about hanging out at the cat park.
Why can’t cats have fun in the park as well?
However, if you are a cat lover, you understand the delight that comes from simply having your feline companion with you. And traveling with a cat is just as easy as traveling with a dog!
You only need to be prepared. Here are the preparations I take whenever I travel with my cat:
• Invest in a good pet carrier

Cats are wanderers (and occasional escape artists), so a decent carrier is crucial for keeping your pet secure.Keep your cat’s personality in mind when you go shopping.
My cat, for example, prefers seclusion, thus her preferred pet carrier is this one by IBIYAYA.
If your cat is more of a people watcher, she might prefer the clear hard case carrier.
• Consider some sort of calming agent
If your cat gets wild on long road journeys, consider giving her a little help. Feliway is a feline-specific pheromone that many cats find relaxing.
While you should not spray it directly on your cat, you can use it on his or her carrier or bedding. It is also available as a room diffuser. It’s available online, in pet stores, and via some vets. However, it’s recommended to consult with your vet before use. If your cat is extremely upset from travel, you should consult your veterinarian about a prescription treatment.
• Bribe her with catnip

Each cat reacts differently to catnip, so it’s best to try this one ahead of time. However, if your cat is one of the many that find catnip relaxing, it can be a terrific distraction on a long road trip. It works exceptionally well if you keep it for special occasions!
• Make safety a priority

While anybody who has been stuck in a car with a squalling cat appreciates how important it is to keep your cat comfortable while traveling, never overlook the significance of safety. First, make sure your cat can be easily identified. Tag collars work well, but microchips are ideal.
Ensure that the information on the chip is up to date, and locate an emergency vet in each city along the way. If you are involved in an accident or become ill unexpectedly, you should be able to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Don’t let dogs have all the fun; vacationing with your cat may be just as entertaining. Plus, if you’re anything like me, it’s a lot less stressful than leaving your infant in the care of strangers!
